Teachers Without Borders (TWB) – Code of Conduct
It is each TWB Member’s responsibility to understand the values and
approach of our organization in detail and to comply with home,
host-country and online protocols of behaviour that respect,
nurture, and advance such values and approaches.
Teachers Without Borders prohibits discrimination based upon the
basis of race, colour, sex, religion, place of origin, ancestry,
age, disability, sexual orientation, marital/family status or any
other legally protected characteristic. Teachers Without Borders is
firmly committed to a policy of equal opportunity in all aspects of
employee relations, including employment, salary administration,
employee development, promotion and transfer.
TWB prohibits conduct that singles out an employee, member,
volunteer or group in a negative way because of their sex, race,
colour, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, religion, age,
physical or mental disability, medical condition, sexual
orientation, gender identity, veteran status or marital status.
Harassment can take many forms, including offensive remarks,
unwelcome advances, requests for sexual favours, jokes, and ethnic,
racist, or sexual slurs. Any form of harassment is a violation of
TWB philosophy and policies.
Our non-profit organization (as well as its membership individually
or in groups) is not permitted to assume lobbying functions for
political or religious positions at home or abroad. We can,
however, promote the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, as
determined by a United Nations charter, and articulate its
components within the context of our international work. The
Universal Declaration of Human Rights focuses its attention on
values they determine as inalienable, such as freedom, a respect
for diversity, and the ability to participate in a democratic
society. Membership in Teachers Without Borders and access to TWB
operations, projects, programs, services, tools, members, and
groups is a privilege and opportunity.
All membership and privileges are revocable should TWB members
and/or organizations using our name and operations or that we may
partner with (a) do so without our consent (b) conduct activities
that violate our own discrimination policy, international law, or
common decency (at TWB’s discretion) (c) engage in actions
inconsistent with the values articulated in this document. For
example, Teachers Without Borders stands firmly against corporal
punishment. Should teachers participate in such activities, they
may no longer remain members in good standing.
I agree to comply with all applicable governmental directives,
laws, rules, and regulations associated with Teachers Without
Borders program and will continue to do so while participating in
any and all Teachers Without Borders programs. I will not use TWB
resources, reputation, or goodwill for personal or organizational
gain or to further any cause, be it political, religious, or
otherwise that is outside the stated mission of TWB without express
permission.
