Closing the global education divide one teacher at a time
Noble Kelly, BEd (President):
Mr. Kelly is a High School Educator of 18 years. He has taught computer science, information technology, math, business, planning, and graphic design. Mr. Kelly has a Post Baccalaureate in Educational Technology. He has worked as a teacher mentor and trainer for the Simon Fraser University Educational Technology Post Baccalaureate program. He has volunteered in South Africa since 2005 with schools and orphanages in the Durban area. He is presently on his second educational leave devoting this time to establishing Teachers Without Borders – Canada and making it his life’s work from this point on.
Neil Bryson, MA (Vice President):
Mr. Bryson has been a music and drama teacher for 27 years, directing many of the highly acclaimed productions at Langley Fine Arts School. For the past four years, he has been the Provincial Coordinator of Project Kenya Sister Schools, an organization of teachers, students and community members, who raise awareness and funds in support of schools in Kenya. Working with the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya, PKSS has raised $145,000 towards the building of schools, classrooms and science labs as well as the purchasing of school uniforms and has sponsored over 160 students through its bursary program. Through PKSS, ten schools in BC now have a sister school near the Conservancy. Their goal is to continue to expand the number of BC schools twinned with schools in Kenya. Last fall, PKSS organized a Global Citizenship Conference for teachers and students and is currently planning another conference for October 23, 2009. Neil is passionate about developing Global Citizenship activism through his work with PKSS and Teachers without Borders - Canada.
Dexter Horton, MAEd (Secretary):
Mr. Horton was a High School Science Educator for 19 years and is now Vice Principal of an Abbotsford middle school. He has his Masters in Administration & Leadership and a Post Baccalaureate in Educational Technology. He worked for two years as a Secondary Curriculum Helping Teacher looking after the development of curriculum, instruction and assessment. Mr. Horton’s experience in administration, leadership and curriculum development will be an asset to Teachers Without Borders - Canada.
Irving (Lee) Rother, PhD:
Dr. Rother is a multi-award winning educator with 32 years of experience teaching, consulting and designing curriculum at the school, school board, university and provincial levels. Currently, Dr. Rother is program developer and head teacher of the Alternative Career Education Program in Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board, where he teaches ICT, literacy, English Language Arts, and Media Education. Dr. Rother was also a consultant at the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board where his dossiers included English Language Arts, Co-operative Education, Social Studies and school climate analysis. Dr. Rother is co-founder and President of the Association for Media Education in Quebec and co-founder and Board member of the Canadian Association of Media Education Organisations. Dr. Rother was a member of the Canadian curriculum framework and learning outcomes team that worked with the Ministry of Education in Amman, Jordan from July to September, 2003.
Marijka Stadnyk, BA, BEd:
Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Ms. Stadnyk received her teaching degree from the University of Toronto. She has been a secondary educator in the GTA for almost 20 years, serving diverse school communities. Extensive experience in the areas of ELL and Alternative Education (“at-risk”) programs includes designing, delivering and monitoring programs for students who require a differentiated and/or non-traditional approach to learning. Marijka's passion for teaching and learning coupled with a keen awareness of social justice issues, particularly in developing countries, has led to international experiences. She has served as an International Election Observer and has been a participant in teacher capacity building projects in Ukraine and Mongolia.
Roger Langen, BA, MA:
Mr. Langen was born in Perth-Andover, NB. He received his B.A. from Memorial University of Newfoundland and his M.A. from York University. He has taught English for the Toronto District School Board from 1975. He has also spent ten years in a Special Education setting for "young women in crisis;" six years in Adult Education. Roger was elected as an Executive Officer for the Toronto Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation in 2005, awarded Bob Brooks OSSTF award for "excellence in school-community relations" in 1991, Jim Forster OSSTF award for "human rights" in 2005. His personal interests included chess, poetry and human rights.
